A Dive bar with spirit
Welcome to the Starbar – your local New Town boozer. Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s trendy city centre and in one of the most elegant residential districts, we’re a bit different from your typical New Town bar. We don’t serve fancy cocktails or food on a bit of roof tile, we’re so much more posher. If you want a meal and a good pint, we’re your pub. We’re a welcoming bunch and whether you want to feel like a local, even if you’re only in for the night or if you just want to find a haven in the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, we’re there for you. We’re very proud to be a quintessential dive bar; a well worn and comfortable, neighbourhood hole-in-the-wall. So if you’re after a relaxing evening, come on in.
We are here for a reason – to be relaxed, straightforward and resistant to the ordinary and so we stand out from the crowds of trendy bars out there.
Everybody loves Starbar, our foosball table and our vintage juke box. We hold live music and other events, show movies on big screen projectors and TV’s and we also have free WiFi.
And for those brilliant, balmy Edinburgh days, we have a great beer garden too.
Join the rebels and become part of the Starbar community. Or just come in for a cold beer in a great atmosphere – do or do not, there is no try.
"If you wander over the north side...find this brilliant pub hidden downtown, New Town! it's a hidden gem, with great staff... food and atmosphere are lovely - a treat on the way to Stockbridge, or returning back uphill to city centre."
"Tucked away at 1 Northumberland Place Edinburgh EH3 6LQ you might miss it on the way past. The Star Bar is kitschy and full of folklore (don’t ask about the skull in the cellar!). Chilled out locals and the odd toff character can be found drinking here. There is table football and a well stocked jukebox. The owner Steve and bar staff are very friendly. Atmospheric with a little beer garden out the back. It’s dog friendly also. If you are a snowflake or not use to paying for drinks in the town then Wspoons might be more for you. But if you want a real bar with real people then you should definitely pop in like what I have been doing for the last twenty years!"
"Really nice little bar, playing real cool music. Small but perfectly formed beer garden. A great place to catch up with friends, or watch sports. Relaxed, unusual and fun."
